Hank Wangford Trio
Hank Wangford, the grizzled godfather of British alt country music, is joined by bassists Kevin Foster (ex-Doll by Doll) and Anna ‘Spanner’ Robinson (ex-The Hallelujah Trails), who brings her heavenly harmonies to Hank’s songs.
It’s not all about misery: Hank knows that laughter, tears and music are the greatest healers. This is why he loves country music; a mix of dark thoughts and deeds, romance and fortune – good and bad – in virtually every song. Hank also recognises and casts a coolly ironic eye on the humour inherent in the mix – so much so that he has been nominated for the Edinburgh comedy prize!
It was through Keith Richards back in the ’70s that Hank – in his real-life role as Dr Sam Hutt, rock’n’roll doctor to the stars – met Gram Parsons (ex-member of The Byrds) and was converted to the cause of country music. Since then he has fronted a series of hot country bands and inspired others, including Billy Bragg. Hank tours extensively with the Lost Cowboys, and his latest album, Save Me The Waltz, celebrates the wild, wicked and wonderful world of the waltz
