Health Fundraiser – UNREST Charity Film Screenings
Saturday November 25th 2017 - Sunday November 26th 2017 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm
The Forbury Hotel
Reading, Berkshire

a charity screening of the Sundance award-winning and Oscar qualifying documentary film UNREST. Tickets must be booked online. The film is part of a global campaign which advocates for more recognition, education, research and funding around ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome).

ME is a severe neuroimmune condition that causes dysregulation of both the immune system and the nervous system. The effects of ME are devastating enough to leave 25% of patient’s bedbound. Even at the mild end of the spectrum, patients lose up to 50% of their functioning. The economic impact of this disease sits at an estimated $20 billion per year in medical and lost productivity costs. Because of the stigma around the disease there a numerous cases in the US and the UK where children have been taken from their parents and put into foster care or even worse, institutionalised. An estimated 30 million people around the world are suffering from ME, alone and in pain. There is currently no cure and little medical support available via public healthcare systems. Patients can be left to suffer in isolation for decades without treatment.

All event proceeds and donations go to The Optimum Health Clinic Foundation. They are an award-winning ME / CFS / Fibromyalgia clinic who treat patients globally. 100% of their profits go to ME research initiatives in the UK. They are currently carrying out a gold standard, randomised control trial, with the University of Surrey to get their services offered on the NHS. Should they be successful, thousands of patients in the UK could benefit from their care.
