Martin Carthy Godfather of English Folk Music
Enjoy an evening with the Godfather of the British folk revival, Martin Carthy MBE.
Martin was first recognised as a virtuoso folk guitarist at London’s top folk club, the Troubadour in the 1960s. There he taught songs to visiting Americans including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon who adapted Lord Franklin and Scarborough Fair for their own records.
From 1969-72, he was a member of the folk-rock band Steeleye Span and in 1972 he married Norma Waterson and joined her more traditional vocal group, The Watersons. Since then he has remained one of the principal driving forces behind English folk music, recording, touring and broadcasting extensively.
This concert is part of Wokingham Summer Music Festival 13-21 June – come and enjoy this unique musical experience in the historic town-centre church of All Saints within easy walking distance of Wokingham train station and many fine restaurants.
