Agree with Ratty from Wind in the Willows that there’s “nothing half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats?” Then head down to the Sonning Regatta over the second May Bank Holiday.
Taking place on Saturday 26th May, the Regatta is a fun, family event held on the River Thames in the historic Berkshire village. The event features races for all ages and all rowing abilities – from aspiring Redgraves and Pinsents to complete novices.
There’s the opportunity to take to the water in more unusual boats including dongolas, Canadian canoes and katakanus. And taking part couldn’t be easier with all boats and equipment provided for both juniors (children need to be over seven years old) and adults with race entry.
To take part either download an entry form at sonningfestival.co.uk or head to Pearson Hall in Sonning on 21st April between 10-12am to register. Entry is £3 per child and £6 per adult.
If you’re more of a land-lubber, there’s lots to do on the riverside including children’s entertainment, a beer tent, BBQ and snacks and an assortment of shopping stalls, why not enjoy a picnic on the bank of The Thames while cheering on the rowers and make a day of it!
